You are at the beginning of your PhD and you are asking yourself: How can I plan and manage my time efficiently? Do I know and understand the basic rules and values of the responsible conduct of research and good scientific practice? How can I build a productive and professional relationship with my supervisor? How do I get started with writing?

The PhD Starter Kit offers you the opportunity to acquire key competencies for your PhD in three compact key modules. In addition, an extra module^plus is offered for international PhD candidates who are interested in an introduction regarding the organization and procedures of the “German doctorate”. 

You can register for each of the modules separately. After you have attended the three key modules you will receive a certificate of participation.

Module^plus - Doing Your PhD in Germany (01.11.2018)
This workshop addresses International PhD students in the first year of their PhD who would like to know more about the specific requirements of doing a doctorate in Germany. It gives an overview over the German research landscape, forms of the doctorate and PhD funding schemes. Furthermore, typical challenges throughout the various phases of the doctoral process as well as the supervision relationship will be addressed.

Module 1 – Time Management in the PhD Process (20.11.2018)
This workshop offers you the opportunity to acquire practical tools and techniques for the time management of your PhD Process.

Modul 2 – Responsible Research – Good Scientific Practice & the Supervision Relationship (19.12.2018)
This workshop offers an introduction to basic rules and values underlying the responsible conduct of research and good scientific practice. Furthermore, it will focus on the question of how to foster a constructive supervision relationship.-.

Modul 3 – Getting Started with Writing: Orientation, Focussing and Structuring (14.01.2019)
Doing a PhD always means also to embark on an extensive writing project. Aim of this compact workshop is to show you how you can make use of writing techniques right from the beginning of your PhD: For finding and narrowing down your topic, for structuring and developing an outline or for writing a first draft.
