The only project of its kind in Germany shaping the future of schools - establishment of Board of Trustees for the University School Dresden
From now on, the University School Dresden will receive the support of a distinguished Board of Trustees: the former State Minister for Higher Education, Research, and the Arts in the Free State of Saxony, Dr. Eva-Maria Stange; the former Rector of TU Dresden and President of Dresden International University, Prof. Hans Müller-Steinhagen; and Claus-Dieter Kaul, Head of the prestigious Biberkor-Akademie, will convene for their constituent meeting on October 21. The rationale behind the appointment of a Board of Trustees is an initiative of the parent association.
Dr. Eva-Maria Stange supports the City of Dresden and TU Dresden’s school project because “The University School is the only project of its kind in Germany that is shaping the school of the future. A school that creates a supportive and stimulating learning environment for all children – without marginalization. The Board of Trustees will provide a critical and helpful view of the school's development by external parties. The academic support and involvement of student teachers from TU Dresden will facilitate the transfer to a new type of schooling in the future.”
In the school’s educational mission statement, cultivating relationships play an integral part. For Claus-Dieter Kaul, this is particularly important in a contemporary school: “For decades I have been working on how to transform schools into contemporary learning and living spaces for students and teachers, where teachers are not only busy "ticking boxes” on the curriculum but can first and foremost build good relationships with individual students. The University School makes anything possible and is, therefore, unique.”
Education Academy for the school of tomorrow
As a specialist in holistic education, Claus-Dieter Kaul also designed the second Pädagog:innenakademie (Education Academy) at the University School Dresden during his visit to Dresden. He is interested in “helping teachers who know and have experienced ‘old school’ methods to find a new identity and to encourage them to step out of their comfort zone.”
During the preparatory week before the start of the school year, educational innovator Margret Rasfeld, co-founder of the Initiative Schule im Aufbruch (SIA), kicked off the Pädagog:innenakademie with a workshop on the future. In the Education Academy, teachers receive regular training on how to implement innovative teaching and learning methods.
