Nordic Narratives: A Poetic Journey to the Arctic - Lecture & Translation Workshop
On November 28, 2025, the EUTOPIA partnership Nordic Narratives invites you to an inspiring afternoon of poetry and translation. Starting at 17:00 CET (16:00 GMT / 18:00 EET), participants can expect a varied program on Zoom.
To kick things off, Prof. Henning Howlid Wærp (Arctic University of Norway) will speak about "In the Mirror of the Arctic - Poetry and Heroes: Amundsen's Five Heads". His lecture will provide exciting insights into the role of poetic narratives in Arctic research - followed by an open Q&A session.
In the second part, things get creative: participants work in small groups to translate a poem from the volume Amundsen's Five Head. The English pre-translations serve as a basis for discussions, linguistic fine-tuning and new interpretations - knowledge of Norwegian is welcome, but not necessary.
A special highlight: the four best translations will be published bilingually in the journal Echinox (Babeș-Bolyai University, Faculty of Literature).
If you would like to take part, you can register via the link provided until November 26. If you have any questions, please contact melina.delmas@warwick.ac.uk.
Nordic Narratives is looking forward to a poetic afternoon full of exchange, creativity and linguistic discoveries!
