Rethinking education: European perspectives on urban learning spaces

New publication from the EUTOPIA Connected Learning Community "Urban Education" published

How can the training of future teachers meet the challenges of modern cities? This is the question addressed by the EUTOPIA Connected Learning Community (CLC) Urban Education, which has now published the open access publication Education Reframed. The book documents the experiences and results of many years of European cooperation between universities within the EUTOPIA alliance.

The community brings together researchers, teachers and students from seven EUTOPIA universities, including TUD Dresden University of Technology. Frank Beier and Christina Kocyba, among others, are involved in the community's activities on behalf of TU Dresden. The collaboration focuses on issues of urban education, cooperation between schools and urban society and dealing with social and cultural diversity in metropolitan areas.

The publication is based on a Blended Intensive Program (BIP) that took place at CY Cergy Paris Université at the end of 2024. Around 50 students and staff from eight EUTOPIA universities worked together with local stakeholders on educational issues in urban contexts. Using visual research methods, they examined the interactions between schools, cities and society. The publication presents the pedagogical approaches, the resulting student works and the participants' personal experience reports.

The publication is an example of how European cooperation, international mobility and research-oriented learning can be successfully combined within the EUTOPIA Connected Communities. The book is now available as an open access publication and offers exciting insights into innovative approaches to teacher education in a European context.
