Event Review: Future Editor Forum | A Fascinating Look at Future Tools for Science Communication
First Future Editor Forum | Organized by TUDiSC in cooperation with SLUB
On September 7, 2023, the TUDiSC project “Disrupt!Research” (represented by Dr. Martina Pieperhoff and Alina Praun), in collaboration with SLUB (Saxon State and University Library Dresden), hosted the first Future Editor Forum. The event focused on the future of science communication, innovative publication formats, and the evolving needs of future editors. The forum aimed to explore the ever-changing landscape of academic publishing, with a particular emphasis on journal publications and their potential for disruption and jointly develop publication formats.
At the beginning of the event, Dr. Martina Pieperhoff presented a study, by the project she leads (Disrupt!Research), which delved into current trends in academic publishing, highlighting potential disruptive forces. Following this, five members of Dresden Concept showcased within the framework of Lightning taks innovative publication formats at TU Dresden.
A highlight of the Forum were the BreakOut Sessions, in which participants discussed the respective Lightning Talks. These included bridging university research and teaching through new publication formats, reaching non-academic audiences, and harnessing the power of social media to disseminate research findings and the importance of metadata and its management also found its place in the discourse.
Central to the discussions was the theme of the digital transformation of science communication and its future implications for scholarly publishing. As the forum drew to a close, SLUB presented insights into the changing landscape of science communication from the library's perspective and introduced support services for members of the Dresden Concept network.
The event was rounded off by the presentation of the following graphic recording, which provided visual documentation of the forum's content.
