An international workshop brings together prominent researchers and participants from around the world to discuss ‘Threats to Democracy and Resiliency of Democracy – Global Perspectives’ in Dresden from 19-21 April 2023. The event is organized by the Chair of Comparative Politics (Prof. Kneuer) in cooperation with the Hannah Arendt Institute for Totalitarianism Studies (HAIT) with financial support by the TU Dresden.

The workshop is closed but we warmly invite you to the public keynote speech and roundtable discussion on Thursday, 20 April 2023, 5pm-7:30pm at the Institut für Holztechnologie Dresden (Zellescher Weg 24, 01069 Dresden).

IPSA president Prof. Dianne Pinderhughes (University of Notre Dame) shares her profound insight on “American Struggles for Democratic Participation – Reflections on The Results of the 2022 Midterm Elections”.

Following this high-level keynote speech, roundtable discussion brings together Dr. Gesine Märtens, State secretary for Justice, Democracy, Europe, and Equality, Prof. Dr. Thomas Lindenberger, head of the HAIT, and Stefan Locke, journalist for the leading German newspaper ‘Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung’ for a timely deliberation on ‘Polarization, Illiberal Thinking and Anti-Democratic Movements – How to Confront Them’. Prof. Marianne Kneuer, the event’s host and director of the Institute of Political Science in Dresden, will moderate the roundtable.
