Refugee Law Clinic at TU Dresden offers legal advice for refugees
For one year, students of the TU Dresden underwent training to become legal advisors in asylum and residence law. Since their successful completion in October 2017, these students have been offering voluntary counselling for refugees.
The free legal counselling takes place on Wednesdays between 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm in the rooms of the project "Wir sind Paten" (Stephanienplatz 2) and on Thursdays from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm in the office building Zellescher Weg (BZW, Zellescher Weg 17) at TU Dresden. In addition, volunteer legal counselling is offered every second Monday especially for refugee women in the counselling and cultural centre "sowieso" of Frauen für Frauen e.V..
The Refugee Law Clinic is a student initiative at the Centre for Integration Studies at the TU Dresden and offers refugees voluntary legal counselling by students who have successfully completed a two-semester training programme in advance.
Parallel to the start of counselling, a new training cycle for legal advisors began at TU Dresden in October 2017. In the winter and summer semesters of 2017/18, around 30 students will acquire basic knowledge of asylum and residence law in order to be able to effectively support refugees in Germany after completing the one-year course. In the first semester, participants attend a weekly lecture on the basics of asylum and residence law and a parallel tutorial. During the lecture-free period, the students complete an internship in institutions that are active in legal counselling. In the second semester, the knowledge acquired and the practical experience gained are deepened and expanded through various workshops.
