4th state competition WTH 2018
On May 12, the state competition Economy/Technology/Household/Social Affairs (WTH/S) took place for the third time in Saxony at the TUD Dresden University of Technology. Once again, the best 9th grade high school students from the preliminary rounds of the regional competitions in Saxon Switzerland Osterzgebirge, Bautzen, Chemnitz, Leipzig and Dresden showed off their skills. On the day of the competition, 13 students competed against each other, including three female students.
For the WTH/S state competition, the participants were given the task of producing a herb staircase with an accompanying scissor bag based on their own designs.
To do this, they had to create a cost calculation (economics), design and manufacture the herbal staircase independently (technology) and sew their own scissor bag using a sewing machine (household). At the end of the four hours of work, the students presented their project in a five-minute presentation to a panel of experts (social issues).
The expert jury was made up of representatives of the competition organizer LJBW e. V., the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK), the Chamber of Crafts (HWK), the regional competition managers, WTH teachers and advisors as well as WTH teaching students from the TUD Dresden University of Technology. The planning, implementation and presentation of the project were evaluated using selected criteria.
