What is the lecture about?
Since Pólya's "School of Thought", problem solving has been a topic in mathematics didactics - sometimes more and sometimes less intensively. The lecture will summarize important results of corresponding research. Current research projects from Germany will be explained using specific examples, focusing in particular on heurisms, their effectiveness and teachability. In addition, insights into problem solving in mathematics lessons will be given and findings from (central) theses dedicated to the topic will be presented. Finally, it describes what the next steps in the field of problem-solving research could and should look like.
