Interview with the coordinator
Dr. Rainer Schaffer is the coordinator of the IngPäd+ study option. In the following interview, he answers some questions about the study option.
Particularly noteworthy are the study entry in Mittweida or Zwickau via the Bachelor's degree program "Engineering Education", the joint cross-university digital and hybrid courses, the practice-oriented studies in the vocational subjects at the HAWs and the opportunity to switch to the teaching degree program at TU Dresden after completing the Bachelor's degree, with many credits from the Bachelor's degree program being credited. It is also interesting to note that the study option enables students to enter the teaching profession with a university of applied sciences entrance qualification.
Three aspects led to the development of the study program:
- The aim is to attract interested people in the region to study to become teachers. At the same time, we hope that graduates will remain in their region after completing their studies/preparatory service.
- By studying at a university of applied sciences, the subject-specific training should be more practice-oriented.
- Students with a university of applied sciences entrance qualification have the opportunity to study to become a teacher.
As this study option begins with a Bachelor's degree at a university of applied sciences, only the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences is required for the course. Vocational training or a one-year internship in the chosen Department is recommended, as this experience is helpful for the degree course and later teaching activities and is a prerequisite for registering for the First State Examination at the end of the subsequent teacher training course at TU Dresden.
The Bachelor's degree course at the HAWs can be started with the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences and may take place closer to home. With the completion of the Bachelor's degree, you gain an intermediate step, which enables various later career options: teaching at a vocational school center / pedagogical activities in a company or external environment / engineer in the private sector / ...
- Take the plunge into education studies in the region
- Access university studies with the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences
- Bachelor's degree (Bachelor of Engineering) and later the first state examination open up many future career options
