DEMAT, HSP and ELFE - no learning assessment 2026 at the university school?
The Dresden University School is a real laboratory for the school of the future. Data-supported school development is carried out here. Educational researchers from TU Dresden will be accompanying the school community for 15 years. Together, they want to answer various questions, for example:
How can learning be successful for every child and youth? Which teaching and learning methods enable individual learning paths? How should schools be organized in order to meet the diverse needs of the learners as well as possible? How can learning success be documented and measured? What support do learners and learning guides need for a successful school day?
The staff at the ForUS University School Research Centre regularly conduct surveys to find out. These can be online questionnaires, observations, standardized tests like DEMAT, HSP and ELFE or the testing of new processes and learning formats with selected groups. This data is collected and analyzed. The results can be reported directly back to the school.
The researchers and the school management team work together on continuous school development. This also means that processes and learning formats are regularly developed further. The pedagogical guidelines in the concept of the school experiment form the framework for this process.
Due to the interruption of funding for the ForUS University School Research Centre, no standardized surveys can be carried out in 2026. The funds for the implementation and data evaluation by ForUS employees are not available. The German Mathematics Test (DEMAT), the Hamburg Writing Test (HSP) and the Reading Comprehension Test for First to Seventh Graders (ELFE) for university school kids and learners at the comparative schools in Dresden will be discontinued. Without this data and its evaluation, data-supported school development cannot be carried out as before.
About the University School Dresden
The Dresden University School is a joint project of the state capital Dresden and the TUD Dresden University of Technology. It is a public and free community school run by the city, where innovative forms of teaching and learning are tested under scientific supervision. In addition, it is a training school for future teachers and, in the future, a further education school for teachers. The school trial is being scientifically supported by the ForUS research center at TU Dresden.
