Research for tomorrow - University School students meet the ForUS accompanying research
What exactly does the ForUS University School Research Center do? The students of the University School Dresden were able to work out the answers to this question together with the scientists in August. The aim of the workshops was to convey the work of the accompanying research by ForUS and to make clear their own role in the research and survey process.
The employees of the research center first asked the questions "Do you know us? Where have we met before? Have you ever taken part in a research project?"
In the subsequent development phase, the students worked in groups of 5 on one of the current research projects, supported by a worksheet. During the following presentation of their results, the scientists also answered questions about social network analysis, competence tests (DEMAT, HSP, ELFE), vignette research, the testing of an improved project logbook and the questionnaire method.
The presentation was rounded off with metaplan cards on which the children could write down their feedback and wishes for the accompanying research. "Better than normal lessons" was one feedback to the researchers, but also "I understood how vignette research works" and "why social network analysis exists."
In the workshop, the students from the youth level (grades 7 and 8) were able to see how similar the research practice of the ForUS employees is to the research-based learning at the USD, which the students themselves implement every day as part of their project work. Their interest in actively participating in and gaining insights from the accompanying scientific research was thus awakened.

The Dresden University School is a joint project of the state capital Dresden and the TUD Dresden University of Technology. It is a public and free community school run by the city, where innovative forms of teaching and learning are tested under scientific supervision. In addition, it is a training school for future teachers and, in the future, a further education school for teachers. The school trial is being scientifically supported by the ForUS research center at TU Dresden.
