Dresden University School included in the "Digital School Saxony" network
Dresden University School has been accepted into the "Digital School Saxony" network. On August 26, Minister of Education Christian Piwarz invited 39 schools from all over Saxony to the award ceremony at the award and network event in the Dreikönigskirche in Dresden.
The Dresden University School is thus part of a Saxony-wide network of schools that are implementing digitalization to a particularly high degree. In addition, close contacts are maintained with companies and universities. The aim is to prepare pupils for the increasingly digitalized world of work and life.
The award ceremony was followed by a meeting of all previously awarded network schools. In addition to a keynote speech and open discussion, there was also an information market. This gave the schools the opportunity to present one of their special projects in the field of computer science education, media education or school digitization in the form of a poster and to get to know other projects and colleagues. The posters were displayed on the premises and reproduced in a catalog for all network schools.
This award is linked to the renewal of the "Digital School" seal of the national initiative "MINT Zukunft schaffen!" (Creating a STEM future). The Dresden University School was first awarded this in 2022.
About the "Digital School Saxony" network
In order to be awarded the title "Digital School Saxony" and the associated inclusion in the school network, schools must demonstrate a focus on computer science education and media education beyond normal lessons at their schools. In particular, girls and young women should be addressed with the offers at the schools. With the 2024 award, this school network has grown to a total of 63 schools.
The network is intensively supervised by the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences Zwickau and the University of Leipzig on behalf of the Saxon State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs. Further information is available on the website of the "Digital School Initiative Saxony".
Initiative "Creating a STEM future!"
The award was initiated by the national initiative "MINT Zukunft schaffen!", which aims to motivate schools to further sharpen their digital profile and bring more computer science content into the classroom. According to the initiative, schools have become more open to the opportunities of digital education in recent years. They want to develop and drive forward their own digital transformation. The signet is intended to recognize and encourage the commitment of school principals and teachers who are committed to modern education in the digital world.
This year, a total of 17 schools in Saxony were recognized as "STEM-friendly schools" and/or "digital schools". The "Digital Schools" award is under the patronage of the Federal Minister for Digital Affairs and Transport, Dr. Volker Wissing.
Further information can be found on the website of the "MINT Zukunft schaffen!" initiative.
