International GARMon Conference "Shaping and Living Norms in Medieval Monasticism" (11.12.–15.12.2024)
From December 11 to December 15, 2024, the first international conference "Shaping and Living Norms in Medieval Monasticism" of the Global Association for Historical Research of Monasticism (GARMon) will take place in Milan.
GARMon has set itself the goal of bringing together global research on the history of monasteries and religious orders in a dialog. The global network provides a framework for relevant activities that take place at various locations around the world. The conference taking place in Milan is the first of several planned GARMon conferences that will focus on various fundamental building blocks of the vita religiosa.
The emergence and life of norms will be discussed in six sections in Milan. Key topics will include the origin and validity of norms, the universal embedding of monastic norms and symbolic and didactic dimensions. Participation is possible both in person and virtually.
