Judith Baumann's dissertation on the letter of James successfully defended

On October 13, 2025, Judith Baumann, doctoral student of Prof. Dr. i.R. Matthias Klinghardt, successfully defended her dissertation on "The Epistle of James as an integral part of the New Testament" at the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Science at TU Dresden. The thesis was reviewed by Prof. Dr. i.R. Matthias Klinghardt and Prof. Dr. David Trobisch. The thesis proposes a new localization of the pseudepigraphical letter of James in the literary history of early Christianity in the 2nd century. Baumann's work is characterized by the fact that it reads the Epistle of James coherently with the narrative of the Acts of the Apostles and can plausibilize its late attestation as well as its position in the history of the New Testament canon.
