Junior Professorship in Empirical Musicology
The Junior Professorship in Empirical Musicology combines current musicological questions with a mixed-method approach combining empirical, systematic and historical methods of analysis.
Empirical Musicology at TU Dresden
Technical developments and ongoing artistic tendencies influence (current) performances of compositions as well as their documentation and archiving. This can explicitly well observed when the source material is incomplete or if the existing source material strongly refers to prevailing knowledge, or artistic and cultural practices and common technologies at the time of its creation. In these cases as well as when aiming at topics that are closely linked to an interdisciplinary context, a broader set of methods is required to substantially address those research questions.
In the Research, the Junior Professor in Empirical Musicology focusses on the development of mixed method approaches, combining empirical and systematic methods, and on the research fields electroacoustic music, computer music, music technology, as well as archiving and re-performing music.
