Structural Domination - International conference
The group in practical philosophy at TU Dresden invites you to join us for a conference on “Structural Domination”, taking place in Dresden on September 18-19, 2023.
Are persons dominated only if particular agents – such as bosses, husbands or racist neighbours – possess arbitrary power over them? Or can persons be dominated by more structural variants of power, such as by capitalist relations of production, sexist or racist norms or novel forms of automated influence and algorithmic rule? Our conference engages with these questions with a focus on what the neo-republican paradigm of non-domination and freedom has to offer in theorizing structural wrongs. It also addresses the relationship between the domination paradigm and other paradigms addressing structural wrongs such as oppression, structural injustice or ideology critique.
Confirmed keynote speakers for the event are:
- Rainer Forst (GU Frankfurt)
- Dorothea Gädeke (Utrecht)
- Christian List/Laura Valentini (LMU)
- Philip Pettit (Princeton/ANU)
Additionally, 20 papers will be presented, which were chosen from a competitive call for papers.
