International Students
If you have any questions regarding your studies, the International Office is open to you as well as the staff of the LLM team.
Visa:
If you want to study in Germany, you usually need a visa. Citizens of the EU and certain non-EU countries are exempt. An overview of the states with visa exemption can be found on the website of the German Foreign Office. Citizens of these countries only need a residence permit for study purposes. This residence permit must be applied for within three months of entry at the relevant foreigners authority.
Citizens of all other states must apply for a visa at the German mission abroad - the embassy or a consulate - of their home country (so called D-VISA or long-term-study-VISA).
Please do not enter Germany on a tourist visa under any circumstances. Conversion into a visa for the purpose of studying or learning the German language is not possible after entry! So called short term visas (C-VISA)are absolutely unsuitable for your studies, because you have to leave the country again after 90 days.
Requirements for a visa
In any case, we recommend that you contact the German embassy in your home country or the responsible consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany in good time to find out about the specific conditions and requirements, as each country has its own regulations and processing can take a long time (up to 3 months).
You have to meet the following conditions for a visa:
You must have sufficient financial means for the entire duration of your stay in the Federal Republic of Germany to cover your living expenses in addition to the costs of the language course/studies. This may have to be proven at the embassy or consulate.
All required application documents must be complete. Please check with the respective embassy or consulate general for the required documents.
Student Visa:
If you have already been admitted to study at TU Dresden, use this to apply for a visa for study purposes at the German embassy or consulate in your home country.
Applicants from countries that do not require a visa to enter Germany (see above) only need a residence permit for study purposes. This residence permit must be applied for within three months of entering Germany at the relevant Aliens' Registration Office.
An overview of visa requirements can be found on the website of the German Foreign Office.
