Exeter
The origins of the University of Exeter can be traced back to 1855 when the School of Arts was founded. The Exeter Law School has an excellent reputation and is among the best Law School in Britain. Despite the intensive academic programme, students still have plenty of time to enjoy the fascinating landscape of South-West England and to go on trips to the nearby coast or to Dartmoor National Park.
Winter semester in Exeter:
Our students study in Exter from the beginning of October to the end of January. During their stay in Exeter they are able to choose between two study options.
The first option requires the participation in two undergraduate courses (for example in Contract, Commercial or Tort Law). Hereby, our students gain insight in the British legal system. In both of these courses our students write an short essay of 3750 words length. Besides, they can choose one postgraduate seminar in which a presentation is held and a paper of 3750 words has to be submitted. Moreover, the students hear a lecture in British Intellectual Property Law such as Copyright, Design Right, Patents, Trademarks which is followed by an oral exam. At the end a paper of 3750 word length has to be written dealing with the topic Copyright Law and Policy.
The second option requires the successful participation in two postgraduate seminars. One in IP Law and the other either in European, IT or IP Law. In both seminars the student gives a presentation and submits a paper being 3750 words long. Moreover, the students hear a lecture in British Intellectual Property Law such as Copyright, Design Right, Patents, Trademarks which is followed by an oral exam. At the end a paper of 3750 word length has to be written dealing with the topic Copyright Law and Policy.
By giving presentation the students learn to present complex legal issues in a foreign language. In the concluding discussions the students improve their abilities to discuss subjects and defend their own opinions. The lectures are characterized by the introduction to the case law method.
