Strassbourg
The city at the German-French border is famous for its inner city, the Munster, for its wine and tarte flambee. Jurists however associate it with the Centre d´Etudes Internationales de la Propriété Industrielle (CEIPI) in which highly specialised patent lawyers and IP laywers in the field of Patent and Trademark Law are educated. It is the only institute in France in which jurists and natural scientists get an education in the field of Intellectual Property Law. During the years a close network was build up between the institute and its alumni. Therefore, the lectures are held by practioners only such as French, European and Japanese Patent lawyer, members of the WIPO in Geneva, the EPA and office of harmonisation in the internal market in Alicante.
The participants gain insight in the different fields of work and get in close contact with the lecturers.
Winter semester in Strassbourg:
The study in Strasbourg begins in October, in some years even in September, and ends in March. The focus lies on French and European Patent-, Trademark- and an Uitility Patent Law. Our students study together with future Patent Lawyers. Thus, the education is therefore not only composed for legal practioners but also for natural scientists and engineers.
Besides the classical lectures, there a numerous workshops (travaux dirigés) to practice the writing of patent claims, trademark appeals and licence agreements. At the end of the six months stay in Strasbourg the students have to write a paper in French on an arbitrary topic in Patent- or Trademark Law which is supervised by Professor Stauder.
Due to the fact that the education has a high practical orientation the students studying in Strasbourg do not have to complete an internship before they return to Dresden.
