Research fields
The range of research undertaken by the Chair of Political Theory and History of Political Thought deal with both the fundamental problems of modern political order and with specific historical tensions and conflict situations. Issues in political science are examined using a historical, systematic and normative approach and an interdisciplinary dialogue created. Specific areas of research conducted by staff relate to the following fields:
- Research on migration and democracy
- Constitutionalism and democracy research with interdisciplinary legal, historical, social and political science approaches
- The social, historical and cultural prerequisites of constitutions as an institutional political order
- The institution of constitutional jurisdiction in the field of contention between law and politics
- Comparative analyses of the terms citizen, civility, citizenship and civil society
- Research on migration, refugees and immigration
- Participation in civil society and the circumstances for political action
- Empirical analyses and cultural scientific interpretations of political outrage movements such as PEGIDA
- Theories of transition, transformation and revolution
