SFB/TRR 339: Digital Twin of the Road System - Physical-Informational Representation of the future Road System TP C01
In the SFB/TRR 339 (TU Dresden, RWTH Aachen), a spatially and temporally multidimensional, digital/virtual image (reality model in space and time) of vehicle, tires and road surface (concrete and asphalt) is to be developed and researched, taking into account the road pavements (integrated multifunctionality). The reality model combines all available and relevant information about the "road of the future" system from physical investigations and modeling as well as from informational and traffic data (sensor data, data models, etc.). It enables and requires interaction between the physical and structural engineering level and the information and traffic design level. This interactive reality model in space and time is referred to as a digital twin road and is used to analyze, control and predict the physical original (real road system consisting of vehicle, tires, roadway, nearby road space) by means of common interfaces. The expansion of the road to a high-tech platform is to be developed by means of the new, interdisciplinary research approach (civil engineering-informatics society).
SP C01 examines the normative context of the digital twin road as a cyber-physical social system. It systematically identifies legal potentials and risks and conceptualizes intelligent transport infrastructure from a political science perspective. Following on from this, specific regulatory requirements are developed in constant exchange with the data collecting (SP B02, B03, B06) and data processing (SP B07, INF) sub-projects. SP C01 links this problem-oriented perspective on the technical design and implementation of the digital twin street with the democratic and constitutional requirements of embedding such a large-scale system in the public sphere.
