Christian Kosmas Mayer, Schaufler Residency@TU Dresden 2020, in two exbitions
Our first artist in residence of Schaufler Lab@TU Dresden, Christian Kosmas Mayer, is presenting his artworks in two important group exhibitions:
The exhibition "Of Genes and People" at German Hygiene Museum Dresden (11 Feb 2023 - 10 Sep 2023) combines artistic positions with perspectives from the natural and cultural sciences to reflect on how current genetic research has an impact in cultural, social and political contexts. Mayer presents a new installation dealing with the complex history of the Pyrenean ibex, the only species ever brought back from extinction. Three years after the death of the last individual of this species, called Laña by the local population, a clone of Laña was born using genetic engineering. It survived only 7 minutes, making the Pyrenean ibex extinct a second time. By bringing some physical evidence of this story to Dresden, including Laña's taxidermy and the trap she was caught in, this installation allows for a physically tangible connection to this individual and her story.
The exhibition project Shift, developed by the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart and the museum Marta Herford, explores artistic perspectives on artificial intelligence.
