Second Schaufler Lab Excursion to Sindelfingen

The Schaufler Lab@TU Dresden visiting SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen, January 2025.
Cooling and refrigeration technology, art, and the dialogue across disciplines—this is what the TSF stands for. During the Schaufler Lab's second excursion to Sindelfingen, which took place at the end of January 2025, the seven PhD candidates of the Schaufler Kolleg, the artist Mario Pfeifer for the Schaufler Residency 2025, and the Lab team received insights into the work of the foundation and Bitzer, the foundation’s associated company.
The excursion started with a visit to the SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen museum and a guided tour of the "Schaufler Lab@SCHAUWERK” group exhibition, featuring works from Christian Kosmas Mayer, Anton Ginzburg, Esmeralda Conde Ruiz and Rosa Barba from the 2020–2023 Schaufler Residencies. At the evening event on "Art and Science", Christian Kosmas Mayer, Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Hoffmann, Chair for Speech Technology and Cognitive Systems (TUD), Schaufler Residency Speaker and Office for Academic Heritage director Kirsten Vincenz, former Kolleg speaker Prof. Dr. Lutz Hagen, Chair of Economic and Political Communication (TUD), and Ingo Smit, Chairman of the TSF Management Board, discussed the complexity of interdisciplinary collaboration, using the example of Mayer’s Schaufler Residency@TU Dresden 2020/21.
Another highlight was a visit of the BITZER Kühlmaschinenbau GmbH in Rottenburg, followed by a discussion with the company's IT managers on various aspects of digitalization, automation, supply chain management, and future strategies for compressor production. The excursion was rounded off with a visit and guided tour of the Media Solution Center Baden-Württemberg e.V. at the High Performance Computing Center (HLRS) of the University of Stuttgart, an innovative data center servicing the interface between the creative industries and high-performance computing. The Media Solution Center is a partner of the Office for Academic Heritage in the EU funded project S+T+ARTS Ec(h)o.
The Schaufler Lab would like to thank all our hosts in Sindelfingen and Stuttgart for the exciting tours, discussions, inspiring insights and warm hospitality.
