Storytellers, Dreamers, Rebels: The Concept of Agency in Selected Novels by Peter Carey
Sebastian Jansen
From the first academic treatment in the mid-1980s to now, Peter Carey's works have been discussed almost exclusively from a 'postmodern-postcolonial' perspective. This project sets out to establish a new concept for literary analysis, agency, and apply it to Peter Carey's writings. Self-determined action, however, is a concept that in important ways conflicts with the omnipresent deconstructivist or radically relativist paradigm in Anglophone literary criticism. Literary analysis will be preceded, therefore, by theoretical observations.
