Master Entry Test
Note: The Master Entry Test is not required by applicants who have completed their first English degree at the TU Dresden - they are automatically accepted.
All applicants who have completed their first English degree at a different university and who wish to take courses in English Studies at the TU Dresden for the following degrees must pass our Master Entry Test (Eignungsfeststellungsprüfung):
- Teilfach Anglistik/Amerikanistik im konsekutiven Masterstudiengang
- Beifach Anglistik/Amerikanistik in den Masterstudiengängen (Master level)
Please note that to ensure equal and fair treatment of all applicants:
- all applicants (including those with long periods of residence abroad) must pass the Entry Test
- no other test results (e.g. Cambridge, TOEFL, IELTS) are accepted
- the Entry Test can only be taken in Dresden at the published times
In order to take a Master Entry Test, choose the earliest date which suits you (see the dates offered on our website under Für Studieninteressierte Master) and reserve a place by writing to the e-mail address given. You will receive confirmation of your reservation with the date and times of the written test and the interview.
Master Entry Test Level
The level of our Master Entry test is oriented towards level C2 of the “Common European Framework of Reference for Languages”. For more information, see: http://www.coe.int/t/dg4/linguistic/source/framework_en.pdf
Master Entry Test Content
The Master Entry Test consists of two parts:
1. a written essay on one question chosen from 6 given questions which each represent the common areas of English Studies at Bachelor level (Literature, Linguistics, British Cultural Studies, North American Cultural Studies, Teaching Methodology, Practical Language Courses). 2. an interview of 15 minutes (discussing topics such as: the written essay, background, previous studies, motivation, experience abroad, future plans). Candidates will also have the opportunity to ask questions.
Master Entry Test Results
Candidates will receive their result by post within one week. Successful candidates will receive a letter of confirmation which should be sent to the Immatrikulationsamt (or Auslandsamt in the case of foreigners).
A pass in the Master Entry Test is valid for the coming academic year and the one following.
If you do not pass the Master Entry Test, you may not take the test again in the same academic year.
