What is the expected standard?
The level of our entry test is oriented towards level C2 of the “Common European Framework of Reference for Languages”. For more information, see http://www.coe.int/t/dg4/linguistic/source/framework_en.pdf
What does the Entry Test consist of?
All students take two parts:
1. A short essay (handwritten) in English (60 minutes). Candidates choose one topic from a selection of 6 topics related to the studies of English (literature, linguistics, British cultural studies, North American cultural studies, teaching methodology, language practice).
2. An interview (approximately 15 minutes). Here students will be asked to discuss topics such as their B.A. studies, any residence abroad and their future plans. They will also have the opportunity to ask questions.
Result of the test
The result of the test will be sent by post within one week. Those who pass the test will also receive a letter confirming that they have passed (Nachweis der bestandenen Eignungsfeststellungsprüfung) – this should be passed on to the Immatrikulationsamt by the candidates as soon as possible. The pass result is valid for the coming and the following academic years.
