Studies
What role do language and communication play in different areas of society - for example in the (social) media, in politics, the economy or in social movements? How do media and social innovations shape the way we communicate, speak and write? And vice versa: How do language and communication shape our social reality? These are the questions at the centre of our courses.
Teaching in Applied Linguistics is application- and research-orientated. We use teaching to examine language in its concrete application together with the students and to test linguistic theories and methods ourselves. We seek interdisciplinary links with political and social sciences, communication sciences and computer science.
One methodological focus is on digital methods such as corpus linguistics. We offer programming courses (Python) and operate a web-based corpus analysis platform on which we also host corpora from student projects from courses or for final theses.
