Nelly Y. Pinkrah is a research assistant at Technical University in Dresden, Germany. She is currently finishing her dissertation at Leuphana University Lüneburg in which she explores the theoretical, poetic & political work of Édouard Glissant to engage in questions of media, histories and constructions of technology and their decisive relationship to, co-constitution with, and patterning of racializing and gendered forms of relating or being other/wise. Nelly is especially interested in taking up Glissant’s tools, a Glissantian glossary, a »vision(ing) of the past«, a poetics etc., to connect distinct historical scenes and experiences as well as Glissants practice of almost textually performing his concepts and theory, to (his contemporaries, that is) cybernetic epistemologies, visions and notions of relating.
Nelly is interested in black feminist theory and practice, black studies, digital media & technology, poetics & politics, critical pedagogy & practice and speaks, writes and workshops for magazines, organizations and institutions. She is associated with the Centre for Digital Cultures at Leuphana University and an alumna of the research training group «Cultures of Critique». In 2021 she was a lecturer at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, from October 2018 to May 2019 she was a Doctoral Fellow at the Global Emergent Media Lab at Concordia University, Montréal. She co-edited the latest issue of the German Journal for Media Studies (ZfM): «X | Kein Lagebericht« (04/2022), which is an anti-racist critique of the institution. Nelly is a Senior Fellow with Humanity in Action, in the Coordinating Team of the German Forum Antiracism Media Studies (FAM) and member of the DFG Network »Gender, Media, Affect«.
