You can get an overview of the different requirements at the Institute of German Studies here. The following templates are already set in the Open Sans font - for security reasons, this font is embedded in the sample files so that you can also use it if you have not yet installed Open Sans on your system.

- Sample file: Scientific papers (*.docx)
- Sample file: Declaration of independence (*.docx)
- Overview of correction marks according to DIN 16511 (*.pdf); provided by the Department of Computer Science at HU Berlin
Final theses
Written theses are intended to show that students are able to work on problems and limited questions of the subject independently and with scientific methods, to present and discuss them conclusively within a given period of time. The final thesis in the various degree programs is written in the last semester. The topic should be agreed in good time with the first and second assessor. Please bring initial ideas and any literature you have already researched, possible questions, the preliminary outline or material you wish to work on with you to the first meeting. The Chair of German Linguistics and Language History offers a regular seminar in which students can present and discuss their theses.
Please note that the Chair of German Linguistics and Language History does not specify topics for theses. The thesis should show that you can work on a topic independently, including the search for and identification of a topic. Please choose a topic according to your own research interests. As a rule, an interesting topic will arise from a seminar or from a topic that you are working on independently. However, please also take inspiration from seminar discussions, the advanced seminar, the research literature or seminar papers you have already completed.
Due to the different processing times in the individual degree programs, the scope of the theses varies. The scope is determined in consultation with the assessors and depends on the choice of topic.
