October 23, 2024 - Reading with Hélène Laurain: Until everything burns

An evening with Hélène Laurain and her first novel Until Everything Burns, moderated by PD Dr. Bettina Lindorfer from the TUD Dresden University of Technology

Laetitia, the protagonist of Hélène Laurain's first novel Until Everything Burns, was born thirty-seven minutes before the explosion in Chernobyl. She is horrified by the plan to bury radioactive waste from France, Germany and Luxembourg in her native Lorraine. Laurain tells a gripping story about the wishes, hopes and fears of a generation that believes the fight against climate change is lost - and yet chooses activism.

Hélène Laurain, born in Metz in 1988, studied political science and Arabic in France and Germany as well as creative writing at the Université Paris VIII. She lives with her family in eastern France and works as a translator. Bis alles brennt (Voland & Quist 2024, translated from the French by Isabel Kupski) is her first novel.
