July 3-4, 2025: Network meeting of the university France and Francophonie centers in Germany

On July 3 and 4, 2025, the Center for French Studies at Freie Universität Berlin will host the annual meeting of the network of university France and Francophonie centers, to which we, as a member of this network, also invite all interested parties! The two-day meeting will shed light on the diversity of the concept of Francophonie and address current perspectives in research, teaching and academic networking.

The meeting will kick off with a panel discussion in which actors from academia, educational cooperation and cultural diplomacy will talk about the current status and prospects of academic networks and research partnerships in the Francophone region. The focus will be on institutional strategies, experiences from scholarship programs and structural challenges.

This will be followed in the evening by a public lecture by historian Prof. Dr. Paul Cohen (University of Toronto), who will shed light on the tension between linguistic diversity and the state's claim to unity and cultural homogeneity.

On the second day, an interdisciplinary workshop will bring together academics from various departments to discuss how the Francophone region is currently taken into account in research and teaching from the perspectives of literature, linguistics, art and political science. It will examine how the concept of francophonie is situated politically, historically and methodologically in different disciplines and discuss initiatives to decentralize perspectives on francophone and postcolonial spaces.
