Registration and Call for Participation: Canada-Workshop "(Un)bordering Canada - Negotiating Space, Identity and Power" (Deadline: 31.10.25)
Dear people interested in Canada,
Borders characterize our present: as visible lines, as cultural or linguistic divisions and as invisible mental barriers. They are shifted, crossed and renegotiated - also and especially in Canada, where questions of space, identity and power come together in a special way.
You are cordially invited to the Canada Workshop of the GKS Young Researchers' Forum to discuss borders and border crossings from a (German-)Canadian perspective. The workshop will take place on November 28 and 29, 2025 under the motto "(Un)bordering Canada - Negotiating Space, Identity and Power" in Frankfurt am Main at Goethe University.
The event is a special opportunity for you as an early-career researcher to network within Canadian Studies - in the broadest sense. The focus is on you and your academic interests: You will have the opportunity to present a current (or past) academic project, receive feedback and exchange ideas with interested people. You can also look forward to exciting input on current topics in Canadian Studies and academic work. The individual program items and speakers can be found in the attached program.
~ Registration and project presentation:
Registration deadline is Friday, October 31 at 8 pm. We as the Young Researchers Forum are looking forward to every early-career researcher in Canadian Studies and welcome all project presentations. Whether you would like to present your Master's thesis, an essay, a chapter of your Bachelor's thesis or dissertation, we look forward to numerous projects and a lively exchange. Each:m is expected to have 20 minutes including feedback and you should be able to support your project visually. Posters are particularly welcome as a fairly new and appealing scientific format, but other forms of visual support are also accepted.
If you are unsure whether your project is suitable, please send your questions to before the registration deadline.
~ Feedback:
All submissions will be confirmed by Monday, November 3rd at 11:59pm. All project submissions will also receive feedback by this time as to whether and on which day and time exactly they will present. At a later date, a further e-mail will be sent with final information such as directions to the venue, parking options, last-minute changes etc.
~ Prerequisites for registration:
Enrollment at a college, university or other academic organization is a prerequisite for participation. Registrations from people with a completed doctorate can only be considered in exceptional cases, as this is primarily an event for Bachelor's and Master's students and doctoral candidates.
~ Travel and accommodation:
Some of you will certainly not be coming from the Frankfurt am Main area, but unfortunately we do not have the capacity to organize accommodation. Therefore, please book your own travel and accommodation. We are sure that you will find good accommodation with the numerous possibilities on site.
We are working on a small financial support for your travel and accommodation in parallel with the organization of the event. The amount of support will depend, among other things, on the number of participants and the amount of funding approved, so it is not yet possible to give a figure. However, you can count on a small subsidy for your participation.
Do not hesitate to write to if you have any further questions.
We look forward to exciting perspectives through your participation!
Sincerely
Johanna Bauhuber
Member of the Junior Researchers' Forum of the GKS (Society for Canadian Studies)
