AUDRÉE WILHELMY, born in 1985 in Cap-Rouge (Québec), has published six novels in French in Canada and France to date; most of them have also been published in English.*Blanc Résine*( White Resin ) is her first novel, which was also published in German (S. Marix Verlag, Verlagshaus Römerweg) in 2024. For this work, the author received the Prix Ouest-France Étonnants Voyageurs.
Audrée Wilhelmy’s poetic prose transports us to a rugged and bewildering world at the heart of nature. Her breathtaking nature writing is both a romantic drama and a feminist fable.
The story follows two people who could hardly be more different: the wild Daã—fearless, independent, and strong-willed—is raised in northern Canada by 24 nuns at a convent and by the taiga; and Laure, the son of a coal miner with albinism who was exploited in a coal mine, miraculously becomes a doctor—in part to earn the respect that his albinism denies him. One day, their paths cross, and they cannot help but fall in love. Daã moves to the city with Laure and has three children. But she refuses to bow to human laws. While he dreams of an orderly existence in high society, she longs only for freedom.
