Gary Victor, born in Port-au-Prince in 1958, is one of the most popular contemporary Haitian authors. In addition to novels, short stories, and plays, he also writes for radio and television, which regularly cause a stir in Haiti. In German-speaking countries, he became known for the crime novels *Schweinezeiten* and *Soro*, both of which made it onto *Die Zeit*’s list of the best crime novels as well as the Litprom “Weltempfänger” bestseller list. His stark depictions of social injustices place him in the tradition of 19th-century social novels and make him Haiti’s most subversive contemporary writer. He has been honored with several awards, including the Prix RFO.
“Suff und Sühne” by Gary Victor was published on March 10, 2017.
Dieuswalwe Azémar, the “Dirty Harry of Port-au-Prince,” has now also gained a German-speaking fan base thanks to “Schweinezeiten” (litradukt, 2013) and “Soro” (litradukt, 2015): Both novels made it onto *Die Zeit*’s crime fiction bestseller list and the Litprom “Weltempfänger” bestseller list.
