French author Fatima Daas visited Dresden to present her novel *The Youngest Daughter *.

Fatima is the child no one was expecting anymore, the latecomer, the only daughter born in France rather than in Algeria. She grows up with her sisters in the notorious Clichy suburb. Love and sexuality are taboo in her family. At school, Fatima is a misfit—loud and full of a thirst for knowledge. She prefers to hang out with the boys and feels out of place in her own skin. Until she meets Nina and realizes her own feelings for her. But loving a woman brings her into conflict not only with her family and her faith, but also with herself.

Breathless and incredibly eloquent, Fatima Daas demonstrates in her highly acclaimed debut that one doesn’t have to choose and that the turmoil of one’s own identity is not a flaw —an impressive story of female self-empowerment (Ullstein 2021, translated from the French by Sina de Malafosse).
