He also showcased his illustrations, which captivate readers of all ages around the world. Serge Bloch is an internationally acclaimed illustrator and author who lives in Paris and New York and works for The New York Times and Le Monde, as well as on advertising campaigns for brands such as Hermès and Samsung. His works have received numerous awards.
1960. On Rue de l’Ours in Colmar, there is a small kosher butcher shop—the only one left after the war. Aunt Thérèse stands behind the counter. In the back room, Uncle Georges does the bookkeeping. And Sylvain, the father, cuts up the meat in his “laboratory” at the back of the courtyard. That’s where the Blochs live, love, and argue. For little Serge, life unfolds between the synagogue, school, and the shop, filled with all sorts of rituals and the joys of childhood.
