Dr. Matthias Kern: Nature Worship and Dehumanization: Romantic Poetry as Biopoetics?
Poster on the occasion of the lecture “Nature Worship and Dehumanization: Romantic Poetry as Biopoetics?” by Dr. Matthias Kern on June 23, 2026, at TU Dresden.
French Romantic poetry is characterized by the special significance accorded to nature. Literary scholars often refer to the creation of a “landscape of correspondence” intended to reflect the sensibilities of the poetic self.
In his lecture, Matthias Kern explored how more modern approaches from biopoetics can shed new light on the poetry of Lamartine or Alfred de Vigny and, in doing so, reveal the emergence of an awareness of nature.
As part of the lecture series “Upheaval and New Beginnings: Romanticism Born of the Spirit of Revolution?” by PD Dr. Bettina Lindorfer.
Guests were warmly welcomed.
