Mikhail Murashov, M.A.: "Dresden in the Works of French Prisoners of War and STO Workers in Saxony, 1940–1945" by Mikhail Murashov, M.A. (Dresden)
Poster on the occasion of the lecture “Dresden in the Works of French Prisoners of War and STO Workers in Saxony, 1940–1945” by Mikhail Murashov, M.A. (Dresden), to be held on June 18, 2026, at TU Dresden.
France’s initial defeat in June 1940 resulted in approximately 2 million French men and women residing in Germany as volunteers, forced laborers, or prisoners of war.
Their numbers were also significant in the Saxon capital and its surrounding area from 1940 to 1945. How did they view Dresden? What was daily life like for its residents on the eve of the destruction? How did French prisoners of war and (forced) laborers experience the bombing on February 13 and 14, 1945?
In the lecture, the image of Dresden was reconstructed based on some of these individuals’ written memoirs, and the traces preserved therein were explored.
As part of the seminar “The Responsibility of Intellectuals: France between 1940 and 1944” by PD Dr. Bettina Lindorfer.
Guests were warmly welcome.
