Update to the deadline regulations
As there is no obligation to register examinations in the 2020 summer semester and the 2020/21 winter semester, the deadlines for registering final theses as mentioned below also do not apply.
We are of course happy to process registrations at your request. For more information, please visit the final theses website.
In accordance with the Examination Regulations, you must register your Bachelor’s thesis at the beginning of the semester immediately following the completion of your last module exam at the latest.
In this context, “completion” is defined as the date on which the module grade is published, not the date of your final examination. The semesters end on March 31 (winter semester) or September 30 (summer semester).
“The beginning of the semester” is the first month of the new semester. Therefore, you must submit your application in person at the Examination Office by April 30 or October 31, depending on the semester.
However, you may also register your Bachelor’s thesis earlier if you wish to do so (before this deadline and before completing all of your modules).
Example: If the grade for your last open module was published on March 31, 2019, then the thesis must be registered by April 30, 2019. If there is still at least one outstanding module on April 1, 2019 (no overall grade), this deadline does not apply. Please note: This regulation only applies if you have not yet decided on a concrete topic with your supervisor. If you have already decided on a topic you can work on, you must register this at the Examination Office within 10 days – irrespective of whether you have completed all your modules or not (see below). This deadline always takes precedence!
Registrations sent by mail or delivered by a third party without first consulting the Examination Office cannot be processed. You can also register your thesis earlier – before you have completed all your modules.
The registration form must be submitted to the Examination Office immediately after being signed by your supervisor (within the following 10 days at the latest). You can supply your second supervisor’s signature at a later date. We are unable to accept your registration without your supervisor’s signature. If you suggest an external second supervisor, please make sure you have the Examination Committee’s permission before you obtain their signature.
Have you completed a stay abroad for your studies? If so, you must also fill out the form on study-related stays abroad and submit this in conjunction with the registration form.
- Form for registering your Bachelor’s thesis according to the old regulations (Examination Regulations 2006)
- Form for registering your Bachelor’s thesis according to the new regulations (Examination Regulations 2013 and 2016)
After you have registered, you will receive the deadline for your Bachelor’s thesis straight away. This means that as soon as your application is accepted, your work period (eight weeks) will begin.
You will also receive an information sheet on how to submit your thesis together with the approval and deadline.
