Application and selection procedure - Bachelor's degree program "International Relations" (ZIS)
Would you like to apply for the Bachelor's degree program "International Relations" at the Center for International Studies (ZIS) at TU Dresden? On this page you will find all important information about the application and selection procedure, deadlines, required documents as well as further information and contact options.
General information
We carry out a two-stage selection procedure to allocate the 39 study places for the Bachelor's degree program in International Relations. The first part is divided into the online application via Selma or uni-assist and the online selection procedure in Opal. The second part consists of a selection interview.
Admission to the course is only possible in the winter semester.
Please refer to the study information system (SINS) for the study requirements.
The selection interviews will take place digitally from August 4 to 11, 2026. Please keep these dates free. Appointments outside the specified period are not possible!
Application procedure
Step 1 - Online application
Your application begins on the information page for the Bachelor's degree program "International Relations" in the student information system. There you will find the current application deadlines and further information. By clicking on "Apply now", you will be redirected to the application portal that suits you best.
There are two application portals, depending on the country in which you obtained your higher education entrance qualification: selma and uni-assist.
Application via Selma
Applicants who have obtained their higher education entrance qualification in Germany usually apply via selma. After you have registered in the portal and submitted your application, you will receive an application number. Please note that the application deadline is July 15.

Application via uni-assist
Applicants who have obtained their higher education entrance qualification abroad usually apply via uni-assist.
The application period begins on April 01.
Please register in good time, complete the application form in full and upload the required documents.

We ask all applicants who apply via theuni-assist applicant portal to submit the required application documents in full six weeks before the application deadline if possible, as the preliminary review of the documents takes some time.
These application deadlines apply to all applicants, i.e. including former high school graduates.
In addition, we also ask you to pay the processing fee to uni-assist by July 01, 2026.
Step 2 - Online selection procedure via Opal
In this step, you take part in the online selection procedure via OPAL. If you do not yet have an OPAL login, please register first. Please note that the application deadline is July 15.

After you have submitted your application via uni-assist, we ask you to register again in Opal for the online selection procedure and to complete at least the questionnaire (Step 2 - Online selection procedure via Opal).
Deadlines and dates
- Start of application: June 01 or April 01 (uni-assist)
- Application deadline: July 15
The applications received are usually evaluated within 2 weeks of the application deadline. The relevant provisions and criteria for the selection procedure can also be found in the Regulations on the Implementation of the Selection Procedure for the Allocation of Study Places in the Bachelor's degree program "International Relations" by the Center for International Studies (ZIS)
The selection interview
Based on the evaluation of the written documents, the selection committee will invite 80 - 110 applicants to a selection interview. These interviews will take place from August 4 to 11, 2026 in a digital format. The invitation to the interview will be sent one week in advance.
In addition to the presentation of personal motivation for the application, the subject of the interview is the examination of solid general knowledge with international reference, special questions on the political systems of other countries or on current topics.
Admission letters will be sent out in week 34. Please refrain from making any inquiries before this deadline.
