2nd ACC Conference brings together networking stakeholders in the Euroregion
During his term of office as President of the Academic Coordination Centre of the Neisse Euroregion (ACC) 2020-2023, IHI Director Prof. Thorsten Claus suggested that the ACC presidency, which rotates every three years between Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic, should organize a forum where students, teachers and researchers from the Euroregion's universities could meet, learn together, exchange ideas and initiate further cooperation. The first edition under IHI aegis took place in October 2023 at the IBZ St. Marienthal as a combination of student autumn schools and a scientific conference.
In 2024, the Rector of TU Liberec, Prof. Miroslav Brzezina, took over the presidency and decided to separate the student part as the "ACC Forum" from the "ACC Conference". While the forum with sixty students from all ACC member universities had already taken place in Liberec in May, the ACC conference now followed as part of the established biennial "Liberecký Ekonomický Forum" (LEF).
A good 50 guests from ACC member universities as well as partner institutions such as the J. E. Purkyně University in Ustí nad Labem, the newly founded German Center for Astrophysics in Görlitz or the branch of the United Nations University UNU-FLORES in Weißwasser reported on their activities and diverse networks and agreed on further cooperation.
"A good format," summarized Prof. Claus, "which should definitely be developed further with the Polish ACC presidency from 2027." In his welcoming speech, Prof. Claus had already outlined the creation of a joint Central European Campus as a long-term goal, on which cross-border study, teaching and research would take place. "People should no longer just study in Zittau, Liberec or Jelenia Góra, but in the Neisse Euroregion," said Claus.
