Our profile

IHI Zittau was founded in 1993 as a model for joint cross-border education by partner universities in Saxony, Poland and the Czech Republic. As this model is based on bringing together different people, for a second cycle of university studies, IHI Zittau has always exclusively offered postgraduate degree courses. Building on a bachelor’s degree (or an international equivalent) you can gain unique experience during your MA programme.

Since 2013, IHI Zittau has been a Central Academic Unit of TU Dresden. We now focus on Biodiversity and Responsible Management. Together with non-university research organisations and partner faculties at TU Dresden, teaching and research at IHI Zittau concentrate on Ecosystem Services, Sustainability and its management.

IHI Zittau is in 1st place a network institution: We are linked by research and common double degree programmes with our international partners, we have very close local co-operation-partnerships with our partners of Leibniz society and at University of Applied Sciences Zittau/Görlitz - and we are interlinked intensively with our partner faculties at TU Dresden.

Only about 300 young people are studying at IHI Zittau; their cultural diversity makes it a special place. At our institute, you can take advantage of the structures of a graduate school, individual support and small interconnected study groups.
