Master's thesis
The master's thesis is generally written in the fourth semester.
As soon as you meet the admission requirements, the examination office will send you
- an e-mail informing you of your admission to write the master's thesis,
- by which date the topic must be submitted to the examination office and
- with an overview of the persons currently authorized to take examinations. If the supervision is to be carried out by a person outside the IHI Zittau and this is not included in the overview, an application and the approval of the examination board are required.
The application for admission to the master’s thesis must be in the original with the necessary signatures (handwritten or digitally signed, not scanned). You can find the application for your degree program here:

The master's thesis is to be submitted in two bound versions with a CD on the deadline, if possible between 8 am and 12 pm (noon), to the Examination Office of the IHI Zittau, Room 3.02, Markt 23 in Zittau. If it is not possible to hand it in personally, please use our mailbox next to the green entrance door. If the work is submitted by post, receipt at the IHI Zittau, examination office is decisive. At the time of submission, you must sign a written declaration stating that your work have been completed independently and using only the sources and aids you have referenced. The declaration is to be included in the master's thesis. For further information on the submission of your master's thesis, please refer to your exam regulations.
If for unforeseeable reasons you are not able to meet the deadline for the submission of your master's thesis, upon a timely submitted request an extension is possible as per the provisions of your exam regulations. In accordance with the decision of the examination board responsible for you, the application must be submitted to the examination board via the examination office no later than 2 weeks BEFORE the deadline. Applications received later will not be processed.
Should you be incapable of finishing your master's thesis within the deadline due to illness, you can apply (immediately) for an extension/suspension by submitting a medical certificate. Only then can the examination board make a decision accordingly.
