Greve Prize of the Leopoldina
The Greve Prize of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina is awarded every two years and is sponsored by the Hamburg Foundation for Science, Development and Culture Helmut and Hannelore Greve.
The prize is endowed with 250,000 euros and is awarded to scientists and research teams working at universities, non-university research institutions or in commercial enterprises in Germany, with a focus on particularly outstanding research achievements in the natural sciences/medicine and technical sciences.
The theme for 2026 is "Robotics and Embodied Intelligence" , with which the Leopoldina - true to its motto "Exploring nature for the benefit of mankind" - would like to recognize the role of basic research in the development of new technologies. The award is to be presented for a research achievement that makes an excellent contribution to the development of intelligent robotic systems. Such systems use their physical embodiment to interact with the real world, learn from it and use their sensorimotor capabilities for the benefit of society.
The University Executive Boards of the universities and all members of the Leopoldina are eligible to nominate candidates.
Proposals are accepted by the Rector's Office (deadline for submission to the Rector's Office: April 23, 2026 to Jenny Petermann, Office of the Rector/Academic Committees, e-mail
