Engineering Sciences with CeTI surf demo at KarriereStart
From January 19 to 21, 2024, the Engineering Sciences presented its diverse range of courses at KarriereStart - Saxony's trade fair for education, jobs and start-ups. The surfboard demonstrator from the CeTI Cluster of Excellence was an example of the interplay between the various engineering disciplines - from Electrical Engineering and Computer Science to traditional Mechanical Engineering. Interested visitors to the TUD stand were able to find out more than just interesting facts about the degree programme.
The surfboard demonstrator makes it possible for the general public to experience how new communication technologies will change people's lives in the future. With the help of virtual reality, users are transported into the scenario of surfing on a moving surfboard. Visitors to the trade fair were able to get on a surfboard after a brief instruction and follow their movements via an avatar on a display. Those who best managed to imitate the avatar's movements were given an impression of how strenuous surfing is. The demonstrator is a successful example of interdisciplinarity in teaching and research for future students.
Students from the Mechanical Science and Engineering Student Representative Council not only supervised the demonstrator, but were also the contact persons for many interested parties with questions about studying an Engineering course of study. The staff of the Student Advisory Service and the Study Service Centre were available to clarify concerns about the application process at the TUD and the general course of study.
