P.E.A.C.H. - Platform for first-time academics to check out the university
P.E.A.C.H. - New platform supports first-year students at the start of their studies
On September 1, TU Dresden launched the platform P.E.A.C.H. - Platform for First-time Academics to Check out the University. The service is aimed at students who are the first in their family to start a degree course and anyone who would like to support them.
Students without a family academic background often face particular challenges: Questions about financing their studies, uncertainties about the transition from school to university or the feeling of initially not finding their way around everyday university life. This is exactly where P.E.A.C.H. comes in.
The platform brings together information, tips and testimonials from first-year students in higher semesters. The aim is to provide guidance, make hurdles visible and share encouraging examples. Teaching staff, advice centers and supporters at TUD can also use the content to support students in a targeted manner.
The team behind P.E.A.C.H.
Gina and Lara, both students at the TUD, are behind the project. As first-time graduates, they have experienced for themselves how challenging it can be to start studying - be it due to confusion in the first lectures, a lack of knowledge about funding opportunities such as BAföG or scholarships or doubts as to whether studying is the right path at all.
At the same time, their experiences have shown that First-time academics are not alone with these questions and concerns - and there are numerous support options available. This realization was the motivation for the development of P.E.A.C.H. The aim is to encourage other first-time graduates to take the plunge and provide them with helpful information and experience.
