The World‘s Greatest 5G-Event Takes Place in Dresden from Sept 30. through Oct. 2, 2019
The future of communications is created in Dresden: The IEEE 4th 5G Summit Dresden, the biggest mobile communications congress of its kind, takes place in Dresden, Germany from September 30 through October 2, 2019. The summit is a joint event of the 5G Lab Germany at the Technische Universität Dresden and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world’s largest professional association for the advancement of technology. This year‘s 5G Summit is organized in conjunction with the IEEE 2nd 5G World Forum, therefore it will expectedly attract even more experts than ever before.
During the event more than 700 participants are expected, and more than 25 executives of industry will be presenting their ideas in keynotes. A record number of 65 booths by leading industry and academia is displaying new research breakthroughs as well as 5G ideas. Attendees will get a hands-on experience in what will be possible in near future. The importance of this event is shown by more than 30 supporting patrons, as well as the engagement of three German Federal Ministries (BMBF, BMEL, BMVI).
The IEEE 5G Summit Dresden offers insights into an almost unlimited variety of application possibilities for the 5G technology. Communications, as we know it, will completely change with the introduction of 5G. Researchers predict that the applications of the new mobile internet will impact all areas of everyday life and industrial production. "5G is the first mobile network to support the requirements of real-time automation and broadband augmented reality. This newly enabled low-latency “Tactile Internet" is a revolution in networking, similar to the mobile Internet of smartphones in the last 20 years,” explains 5G Lab-coordinator Prof. Gerhard Fettweis. 5G will enable the Internet of Things. It is not about the mobile communication of 7 billion people anymore but about the networking of 500 billion electronic devices. In order to meet this challenge, the whole system needs to be revised: from communications networks to data security, from microelectronics to software.
The 5G research in Dresden takes a holistic approach to the next mobile telecommunication standard. The 5G Lab Germany emphasizes the importance of systemic approach, interdisciplinarity and strives to bring together the industry and the academia. Therefore, the 5G Summit in Dresden offers a unique platform for industry practitioners, innovators, and researchers to collaborate and exchange ideas that will help to drive standards and rapid deployment forward. Leading companies of different branches of industry, e.g. Vodafone, Nokia, Bosch, Infineon, Ericsson and Deutsche Telekom, discuss the latest 5G developments, such as system design, silicon hardware, wireless interfaces, networks, edge clouds all the way up to Tactile Internet applications.
“This is the first 5G Summit where 5G is publicly deployed in several countries. There are interesting times lying in front of us. Now we will see the use cases that we might have missed in the past. The most interesting part is the fusion of computing and transport forming the new communication network era “, said 5G Lab-coordinator Prof. Frank Fitzek.
The event will take place at the International Congress Center Dresden, Germany.
