Yana Vaynzof takes over professorship for novel electronics technologies

Dr. Yana Vaynzof has been appointed as a new professor for Novel Electronics Technologies at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering on January 1, 2023. In addition, the multi-award-winning scientist will take over as director of the Institute for Novel Electronics Technologies at the Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW).

Professor Vaynzof looks back on an international academic career. The competencies she will contribute lie at the interface between chemistry, materials science, physics and electrical engineering. Her research focuses on the integration of novel semiconductor materials into new optoelectronic components. Vaynzof relies on the use of a variety of advanced microscopy and spectroscopy methods, the combination of which provide insights into the chemical-physical and matter-light interactions of novel semiconductor materials at the nanoscale. Another part of their research is the development of new experimental methods that go beyond existing characterization methods.

The scientist, who earned her doctorate at the University of Cambridge (UK), is also committed to gender equality and diversity in the STEM fields (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology), among other things. In addition to future joint research projects in close cooperation with the IFW, Professor Vaynzof is also particularly interested in promoting young scientists by supervising final theses and doctoral dissertations, which she supports, for example, by organizing conferences and workshops. With her competences and commitment, she will enrich not only the IFW but the entire research location Dresden in the future.
