Introducing the chair
Welcome to the Chair of Social Affective Touch and the ConTakt Lab. Based at the TU Dresden, we are an interdisciplinary and international group of passionate researchers that investigate how and why we interact with others using our many senses. Sometimes we do this face-to-face, sometimes across large distances. We use our eyes, our ears and in many cases touch. We want to better understand the cognitive and neural mechanisms that allow us to understand and coordinate with others. A large part of our work and projects funded by the Center for the Tactile Internet with Human in the Loop (www.ceti.one) explore the cognitive mechanisms and neurophysiological correlates of social affective touch.

Coordinating with others in a digital age
Our research falls broadly into a) describing the dynamics and consequences of coordination in groups and b) the neurophysiological underpinnings and consequences of social affective touch. As part of the CeTI Excellence Cluster and the 6G Life project, our team is figuring out what our affective touch experiences will look like in an ever more digital world.
- Will we ever trust a robot that can touch and be touched?
- Can social touch be used as a medicine?
- Can we really experience social touch in virtual reality?
- Will everyone come around to using haptic technologies to reach out over large distances?
